SINCLAIR COMMUNITY COLLEGE ANNUAL CREATIVE WRITING CONTEST
Eligibility: Open to those writers who have received no payment for published manuscripts in the category they are entering (payment includes free copies of journals in which their work has appeared). Previous first and second place winners are ineligible to enter categories in which they have won. They may, however, enter other categories. Sinclair faculty, staff and spouses are ineligible
Winners: The winning entry in each category will receive $60. Second place in each category will receive $30. Third place in each category will receive $20. The above winners along with those receiving honorable mention will receive certificates suitable for framing. Contest winners will be presented awards during a March ceremony at Sinclair Community College. Winners need not be present; awards will be mailed.
IMPORTANT! A final award to the winner of all categories will be made on behalf of the Antioch Writers' Workshop and includes a full tuition waiver to their week long workshop July 8-14, 2017. Other first place winners will receive a scholarship to the Saturday AWW or may use their partial scholarship toward the full week. Faculty includes keynoter Save the Date! July 8-14, 2017!
Featuring Keynoter and Sunday Morning Craft Class Instructor, John Scalzi. John is an American science fiction author, online writer, and former president of the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America. He is best known for his Old Man's War series, three novels of which have been nominated for the Hugo Award, and for his blog Whatever, at which he has written frequently on a number of topics since 1998. He won the Hugo Award for Best Fan Writer in 2008 based predominantly on that blog, which he has also used for several prominent charity drives. His novel Redshirts won the 2013 Hugo Award for Best Novel. He has written non-fiction books and columns on diverse topics such as finance, video games, films, astronomy, and writing, and served as a creative consultant for the TV series Stargate Universe. John is also the recipient of the 2016 Ohio Governor's Award for an Individual Artist.
Other fiction, nonfiction and poetry faculty include authors from across the US.
